Question by Rouxfie: Damaged ear canal from fungus removal suction – Skin regrowth? Healing?
Firstly, I want to apologize for the length of my question / explanation. If you think you can help and can bare through it I’d greatly appreciate your time.
Before I start this let me stress the fact that two months ago I lost my job as well as my insurance. The ENT specialist nearby is $ 150 a visit. That doesn’t include any prescription medications, obviously.
On the 15th I developed a severe earache. By he 18th I had no choice but to borrow the money to go to the doctor. The pain was numbing. The doctor informed me I had basically given myself swimmers ear and I had a very bad fungus attached to my skin. In the most painful experience of my life he sucked the fungus out. It was so agonizing that I burst a blood vessel in my left hand and I actually had to fight not to burst into tears. He told me my ear canal was now completely raw and gave me Ciprodex ear drops to use for two weeks. He was kind enough to give me enough samples to last me when I told him I did not have a prescription plan. I asked him how long I would be in pain for and he told me a few days.
At first I felt relief. Unfortunately it was short lived. Within hours the pain was off and on again absolutely paralyzing. I wanted to be shot. I could barely open my mouth to mumble and no matter how I laid in bed I was in pain. I tried Tylenol, aspirin, Motrin and even leftover acetaminophen-codeine #3 with NO relief. I almost went to the ER multiple times in the last week and most nights I sat up in my bed rocking back and forth. I couldn’t afford an outrageous hospital bill like that so I endured. I wanted to give the doctor the benefit of the doubt and let the few days pass.
Eventually as days went by the pain lessened but was still quite evident. Some nights I still couldn’t lay my head down. I wanted to complete the two weeks of drops before, if ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY, I would have to make another visit to the doctor.
The last two days the pain has been fairly minimum, a dull roar, like at any moment I could experience immense pain but the sudden waves of sharp, agonizing dismay are far and few between. However, today whenever I pulled the cotton ball out of my ear it had a thick, off-white, sticky substance on the end. At first I thought it may be puss but it’s much more sticky, and this is a gross comparison, but like a booger. It feels EXTREMELY wet inside. Raw. Itchy. Very itchy. When I take a hair dryer and let it blow (at about a foot from my face) on my ear to dry it and then press around my ear it feels sharp and rough inside, like a jagged scab all around. Now before when I removed a cotton ball there was light colored blood on the tip.
Does anyone have any idea if it’s the skin trying to grow back in my ear canal? Am I preventing it from healing properly by sealing it off with a cotton ball? Is the cotton ball continuously removing the new skin growth as it tries to scab over? Should I keep drying it with a hair dryer? As I side note I still can not hear from my ear, it seems fairly blocked. Just the “marching” sound of my heartbeat. The pain is still minimal. The doctor didn’t tell me anything at all, just that it was raw and to use the drops for 2 weeks then he ran out of the room.
Again I can not stress enough I do NOT have the funds to go to the doctor again if I absolutely can avoid it. I know you should never mess with something as delicate as your hearing but if anyone can shed any light of hope that my ear is just naturally healing I will let it ride out
Does anyone think hydrogen peroxide would aid the healing process? Rubbing alcohol? Anything..?
Thank you for any input. And.. Please if you don’t want to experiment with your tolerance for pain, don’t make my mistake and use q-tips to clean your ears! I only started doing it a year ago when I started using in-ear buds to listen to music and it was a HUGE mistake. A costly, oh so painful mistake! As my biology teacher taught me years ago.. Never put anything smaller than your elbow in your ear!!

CONTRAST – examine specifically how the style, gods, heroes, purposes, motifs, and other elements in this epic that contrast to Greek mythology. Summary
The epic hero Beowulf defined courage and heroism in Scandinavian mythology. His character was seen as the perfect example of what a warrior and king should be. This is his story. Hrothgar, the wise and skillful king of the Spear-Danes, built a huge mead-house so that his grand army could have a place to celebrate its many victories. He named the grand hall Heorot and feasted in it with his warriors, unaware of the terrible creature Grendel that dwelled in the moor. Day after day Grendel listened to the joyous celebrations of the Heorot with hatred in his heart, until one night he attacked. He grabbed 30 of the Spear-Dane warriors in their sleep and took them off to his lair where he ate them. In the morning the Spear-Danes realized what had happened and were filled with horror. However, they thought that Grendel would not return, they were wrong. He came again the next night and again the next. For 12 winters Grendel wreaked havoc upon the Spear-Danes, constantly raiding the Heorot and instilling fear into the hearts of the Spear-Danes. The Spear-Danes’ hopeless struggle caught the attention of the Storm-Geats who lived across the whale-road, specifically a warrior by the name of Beowulf. Upon hearing of the monster Grendel, Beowulf chose 14 of his bravest warriors and sailed off to aid the Spear-Danes and slay Grendel. Beowulf is welcomed warmly by his friend Hrothgar but is criticized by the Danish hero Hunferth. Beowulf and his men then go to Heorot and feast with Hrothgar and his warriors. Once the festivities were over the Storm-Geats went to sleep in the hall while Beowulf lay awake. When it was dark Grendel snuck into the mighty hall and quietly tore one of Beowulf’s men to pieces, he then started for Beowulf but before he could grab him, Beowulf leapt up and seized Grendel. Beowulf tore off the monster’s arm and it ran off to its lair where it eventually found death. King Hrothgar rewarded Beowulf and the Heorot was filled with celebrations and feasting over the death of their foe Grendel. Little did they know Grendal’s mother was planning her dark revenge in her den. That night Grendal’s mother broke into the Heorot, however the warriors were not very afraid of a female monster so they attacked her. Grendel’s mother was suddenly filled with fear and retreated but not before she grabbed Aeschere, the king’s most trusted comrade. Hrothgar was filled with sorrow and asked for Beowulf’s help, he accepted and prepared to fight the mighty beast. When he reached the cliff above Grendel’s mother’s den, Beowulf told his men to stay behind as he jumped off the cliff into the sea. The monster was ready for Beowulf and dragged him into her den. Beowulf tried to slash her with his sword but his blade did not pierce her scales and she threw him to the ground. Beowulf then saw a sword forged by the giants, he seized the sword and brought the blade down on Grendal’s mother’s throat with all his might. She ran away mortally wounded and when Beowulf found her lifeless body he decapitated her and brought the head back to Hrothgar. Hrothgar showered Beowulf with gifts and when he returned home King Hygelac of the Storm-Geats gave him a golden sword and a prince’s seat. After a while King Hygelac died from the blade and Beowulf took his place and ruled for 50 winters. After a while a fearsome dragon that guarded a barrow filled with treasure appeared and scorched the buildings of Geatland. The dragon did this to get revenge on a slave that had stolen a golden cup to please his master from the dragon’s barrow. Beowulf took 11 of his bravest warriors with him to kill the dragon but this time Wyrd, the ruler of all, didn’t have victory in mind for Beowulf. Beowulf called out the mighty dragon and it spewed flames at him. Beowulf then realized he would not be able to defeat the dragon and his shield slowly started to melt. Out of the 11 men only Beowulf’s nephew Wiglaf had enough courage to help B
