Ear Hearing Aid Contains Electronic Marvels to Mimic the Ear

Patients with hearing problems require hearing aids that mimic functioning of the normal ear. In normal ear, when sound is produced, it is received by the ears and amplified. The sound in transmitted by sensory nerves and gets interpreted by the brain. The cochlea in the ear usually gets sound through the ear canal. It usually has chambers filled with fluid. They have membranes on which hairs vibrate depending on the sound frequency received. The sound waves that are processed are the sound waves transmitted to the brain by nerves.

In the same way, hearing devices receive sound from the environment and their major goal is to amplify this sound. Patients with hearing impairments usually fail to hear sounds of various frequencies. This is due to malfunctioning of their ears as they are unable to amplify sound. Electronic components usually comprise of a sound processing unit, digital signals, hearing nerves and electrode arrays. The sound processor usually picks up sound from the external environment. This sound is usually processed and converted into digital signals. These signals are the transmitted to the implanted device digitally. These signals usually mimic the auditory nerves which transmit sound naturally. These sounds usually induce hair cells to transmit sound to the brain. This whole process mimics the ear.

Sound frequencies usually vary a lot. The human ear that functions normally is usually able to detect all sound frequencies and differentiate them all. On the other hand, digital hearing devices also try to detect all frequencies. However, they are not perfect in differentiating all the frequencies. Thus, a human ear remains superior to manmade hearing devices. Hair cells in a normal human ear are usually responsible for distinguishing various sounds. In manmade devices, it is still hard to mimic hair follicles perfectly. In manmade devices, hair follicles are usually mimicked by silicon based technologies.

Scientists are still researching more on Ear Hearing Aid devices to make them mimic ears perfectly. There are studies being made whereby in cases where hearing impairment is due to dead hair cells in ears, surgical transfer can take place. This may involve removal of some brain cells and replace dead hair cells in ears. Digital signal processing is a technology being employed in designs of digital electronic gearing devices.

Question by Juice: How to connect headphones to a bass amplifier?
Do you need good ones? Mines for ipod cheap ones. Where to connect it there are two inputs at the back. It does not fit anyways. Am I going to damage hearing? How long should you play with headphones.

NEVER use the headphone socket for an AUX connection they are totally different signals, at best youll get distortion at worst you could burn out either or both amp and ipod.

use the AUX signals via the DOCK at the bottom you can get specail dock connectors that break out these signals either apple or third party.

also the level of the volume on the heaphones is limited BY law but its still loud enough to damage your hearing long term. rememebr sound quality and Volume are NOT the same!! if you have standard heaphones in at max volume and its too quiet for you bad news you have already damaged your hearing!

Electronics amplifier can be classified in various ways and they are the bandwidths which can be narrow or wide, frequency range (e.g. audio or radio frequency) or output factor like voltage or power. In a frequency modulated system, the wide band radio frequency amplifiers are required. For the sound broadcasting, a radio frequency bandwidth of 10 kilohertz is needed in the amplitude modulated signals. In a high quality frequency modulated audio, a bandwidth of 100kilohertz is needed.

Question by Jeronimo Rock Hopper: I need a hearing aid device?
I have trouble understanding some people speak because they’re so quiet and higher pitched.

I notice I can hear fine if I just hold my external ear slightly forward to make a cone so i can hear fine.

Besides electronic amplifier hearing aids, are there any cone-like hearing aids that duplicate the effect of holding the external ear forward a little bit?

I want to have the effect of holding the ear to make a cone, without me holding my ear to hear.

What you have described above sounds like you have high frequency hearing loss and by cupping your outer ear – yes it does allow you to hear better. Our outer ears are shaped the way they are to capture sound and funnel it down our ear canals. Some of the first hearing aids were built upon this natural shape – there were trumpets and horns to hold up to your ear to better ear.

Technology has changed drastically over the years and you would be better off looking into digital hearing aids designed for high frequency hearing loss. Because they are digital the hearing professional will program them to provide amplification only for the frequencies you need. Unfortunately cone hearing aids are no longer sold but I have included a link to a article on the history of hearing aids with pictures of what they used to look like.
